Our Lexington Guide

Our Lexington Guide

As our (re)Grand Opening is approaching this weekend (details here), I wanted to share my local recommendations for all of you planning to visit.  Lexington is my hometown, and we have so many local spots that make a perfect day trip out to the country.

Our historic Main Street is like something out of a Hallmark movie - truly.  We are so fortunate to have such beautiful surviving antebellum architecture in our little town.  Just walking up and down the street, seeing the pre-Civil War Courthouse (still in use) and admiring the buildings is a great way to spend a morning.

I would start at our shop at 900 Main Street, of course, then make my way down to The River Reader Bookshop for a coffee and book browsing (I can always buy books), then cross the street to The Purple Turnip (the most charming shop you've ever seen) and Blackthorn Antiques (for fine furniture & art).

For lunch, I recommend the new Bailey's Coffee House (I am obsessed with the Roast Beef Sandwich & Greek Salad - they have great coffee, too), Maid-Rite for an old school diner or drive-in experience (order a Cheese-Rite with the works and Chocolate Shake) or for authentic homemade Mexican food go to El Sabor (we love the Quesobirria and a real Coca-cola in a glass bottle).

Don't miss White Chapel Antiques.  It is worth getting in your car and driving the few blocks (and near Maid-Rite if you go for lunch).  I always find something new (old) there and enjoy seeing what he's refurbishing lately and the old church building is darling.

Produce Farms :

A trip to Lexington isn't complete without a stop at a Produce Farm.  During the summer you'll find the best peaches, tomatoes, sweet corn and cucumbers.  In the fall, you must go home with big bags of apples and piles of pumpkins.  Fahrmeier Farms is run by my cousins and is a family friendly experience with seasonal u-pick berries & pumpkins, donuts, kids activities and a garden nursery.  It is a whole thing.  Meierer's Produce is a very local feeling spot with a big selection of fruits and vegetables - and an entire menagerie of animals crawling about the farm.  Rasa's Orchard is a specialty orchard with the most revered local Peaches & Apples.

We will be hosting a grand re-opening June 19-20th.  We will have workshops, tutorials and treats to celebrate!  More details, here.
